I was once told that my paintings must celebrate the media I use with their fluidity, and should be devoid of line.
How I try to be a purist, but sometimes the temptation of mixed media is just too much!
Watercolour with bold inky lines.
Pastel and pencil gaudily streaked across a wash.
An indulgent combination.

It seems to me that the more deeply one appreciates the rules, the more creatively one can break them.
Works in writing - so it must work in painting...
